In-School Activities

Class Council – Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Class Council is a student-elected organization that is responsible for all class fundraising, class spirit events, and class charitable donations. Organized and led many successful events each year including dances, homecoming projects, and a talent show DVD.

  • Time Commitment: 2 hours per week for entire school year

Student Council – Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Student Council is a school-wide student government elected by the student population. The council sponsors numerous special activities and events such as blood drives, teacher appreciation days, t-shirt sales, and the Rock for Relief fundraiser (further explanation under volunteer services). Was an active member on the council each year and served on various committees including the student body feedback committee and homecoming committee.

  • Time Commitment: 1 hour per week for entire school year

National Honor Society – Grades 11 and 12. Selected by the faculty for membership in NHS in my junior year, which is the first year students at Windsor High School may be eligible for nomination to this academic honor society. Selection is based on high academic achievement, strong extracurricular involvement, and leadership within the school and community. NHS met twice monthly, and participation included several service projects, both in individual and group settings.

  • Time Commitment: 1 hour every 2 weeks for entire school year

Band – Grade 9. The Windsor High School Band performs at many functions including sports events, concerts, parades, and competitions. Was a member of the percussion section and performed on the full drum set as a freshman.

Talent Show Participant – Grades 9, 10, and 11. The talent show is a highly regarded production staged by the senior class each year. Approximately fifteen acts are chosen from a pool of forty to perform. Was the first all freshmen band selected in over 10 years; performed on guitar and vocals with band and presented two original compositions plus one cover.

  • Time Commitment: 1 hour per day for 4 weeks

Talent Show Video Production – Grades 10 and 11. The talent show video is a complex project involving video footage from seven cameras and audio from several additional sources. This material is edited to make a professional quality DVD which is sold to students and parents. Generated the concept for the video, was the director of the audio recording and mixing, and created a ProTools ™ mix of every act in the show.

  • Time Commitment: 2 hours a day for 4 weeks

Math Team – Grades 10, 11, and 12. The Math Team analyzes and solves complex math problems and competes against other schools at four meets throughout the year. Was a member of the platinum and silver teams during grades 10 and 11 and personally formed a brand new team during grade 12.

  • Time Commitment: 1 hour a week for entire school year

Boys State Delegate – Grade 11. Boys State is a statewide convention of junior boys who are nominated by the staff of their schools. Boys State focuses on the civic duties of the citizens of Arizona and hopes to inspire the participants to understand the value of public service.

Interscholastic Athletics

Academic High School Freshmen Basketball Team – Grade 9. Played on the 2013 Championship Team.

  • Was overall top scorer and rebounder for team.

  • Captain – Grade 9.
  • Time Commitment: 16 hours per week for 12 weeks

Academic High School Varsity Basketball Team – Grades 10, 11, and 12. Was one of two sophomores selected for the varsity team in Grade 10. (The team was the semifinalist in the regional championship during grade 10. During grade 11, the team was ranked number one in the state but was upset in the course of the playoffs.)

Academic/Other Recognition

Sophomore Superintendent’s Academic Excellence Award – Grade 10. This award is given to high achieving sophomores who have taken a minimum of three honors classes in the first two years of high school and have maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher.

AP Scholar – This award is given to students who achieve grades of three or higher on three or more AP exams. (September 2016)

Delegate to State Student Council Convention – Grades 10 and 11. The State Student Council Convention is a meeting attended by high school representatives from throughout the State of Arizona. Delegates discuss council activity, brainstorm, and interact as a state-wide organization. Was selected as a sophomore and as a junior to attend and also was invited to design and lead a Windsor High School workshop at the conference.

Nominee to attend Arizona Youth Leadership – Grade 10. The AYL Conference is a state-wide meeting of high school juniors who display leadership abilities. Was the only upcoming junior nominated out of a class of 400; unfortunately, was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.

Princeton Book Award Nominee – Grade 11. Only member of the Junior Class to be nominated to represent my high school in the Princeton Book Award state competition. Selection is based on scholastic excellence, leadership, and community service.

Student/Staff Interaction Committee – Grade 12. The purpose is to discuss issues and promote dialogue between the two groups. Selected by faculty members to be a student member of the 2015-2016 Student/Staff feedback committee.

Work Experience

Phoenix State Fair – Summer of 2016. Employed by the City of Phoenix for the duration of the state fair. Worked as a parking attendant.

  • Time Commitment: 7 hours per day for 1.5 weeks

Strawberry Picking/Selling – Summer of 2014 and 2015. Self-employed during the strawberry picking season. Worked with two other friends; awoke early in the morning to pick strawberries and then sold them at a roadside stand.

  • Time Commitment: Varied based on day

Phoenix All Sports Summer Camp – Summer of 2014. Worked for the one-week duration of the camp. Was an overnight camp counselor responsible for 12 children who participated in many different athletic events.

Community Activities/Summer Programs

Phoenix Y Leaders School – Leaders School is an intense week-long camp experience designed to give young leaders the skills required to make a positive impact when they return to their communities. Have attended the camp for all six years of the program.

Fellowship Cup Winner – Summer of 2017. This special award is the highest honor awarded at the Y Leaders School camp; it is given to a camper who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership emphasized throughout the week.

Fellowship Cup Nominee – Summer of 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Community Activities/Summer Programs Cont.

The Camp of Champs – Summer of 2014-2017. Participated in this basketball camp which is designed to provide lessons in character through athletics. Was a member of the team that won the camp championship in the 2015 season.

Phoenix Summer Basketball Program – This program is a combination of day camps and night league games structured to allow participants to improve basketball skills. Have attended these camps each year since 4th grade.

Professional D.J. – Have DJ’d over 20 dances with a group of friends who formed a DJ service freshmen year. Have also volunteered these services at several Chem-Free dances sponsored by the Y-Leaders Club.

Relay for Life – A 24-hour event designed to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Participated for several years and was invited to play a concert last year during the relay.

Volunteer Services

Windsor High Blood Drives – Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Have volunteered to work at every blood drive during high school career. Have served in various roles.

  • Outstanding Worker Award Recipient: Grades 10 and 11.
  • Time Commitment: Twice a year for 8 hours a day.

Windsor High School Wilma Relief – Grade 12. Was one of two prime initiators and organizers of this Student Council sponsored fundraiser for victims in New Orleans (also performed with my band). Raised more than $5,000 for Red Cross relief efforts.

Presidential Campaign Volunteer – Grade 11. Volunteered for the campaign, attended rallies, canvassed, and participated in public promotions.

Camp Sunshine Summer D.J. – DJ’d weekly at Camp Sunshine (summer camp for cancer kids) dances free of charge.

  • Time Commitment: 5 hours every week for 6 weeks.

Volunteer at Pappas School – Assisted in a variety of tasks around the school, such as collating student handbooks and helping with classroom preparation. Have served as a reader for Community Reading Day hosted by the Phoenix School Department.

  • Time Commitment: Every summer for 10 years.

DARE Volunteer – Served as a DARE role model and guest speaker for fifth grade students in the Windsor Schools.

Avocational Interests

Musical Group – Have performed in a popular musical group since 8th grade. Performances include original compositions as well as covers of popular songs. Have recorded and distributed more than one hundred cds.
