We live in a digital world where everything is all about computers and technology nowadays. You might assume that you know how to work around your desktop computer, but the truth is, there is more to what computers can do than simply just logging in.

Throughout the educational system, there have been mandatory subjects such as Math and English, in which each student is required to study these subjects in order for them to move on to the next level. One of the hottest debates right now is if computer science should be among the subjects that every student should be required to study. Well, all factors considered, one of the most popular classes in Australia that people are looking to join is computer science classes. Which further begs the question, why so? Read on to find out.

1. Living in a digital age

This is a no brainer. As aforementioned, almost everything can be done in today’s age using computers. To be a part of this digital era, all students need to be equipped with more than just the basic knowledge of computers. Remember, computer science is a more in-depth study of computers as it covers topics such as coding, algorithms, programming, and so on. Furthermore, since most students enjoy working with computers, most of them will find it exciting to learn all about the fundamentals and more.

2. Better career opportunities

Everyone today is always on the lookout for better opportunities and better-paying jobs. But did you know that computer science professionals are among the top paid employees? There is a big demand for people who are conversant with computers. This is because all industries use computers to make their processes as seamless as possible. If students taught computer science at an early stage, they will have a strong foundation which will make it much easier for them in the future.

3. Improves the student’s skills

Right now there is a huge demand for people who can do programming and coding to come up with innovations to make processes more convenient and to streamline workloads. Knowing this, it would be a great asset for students to learn computer science early, as it will equip them with the necessary skills to be part of the revolutionary changes in this digital world. Equipping students with computer skills also equips them with analytical skills and problem-solving skills that will benefit them in all other areas of life.

4. It paves the way for a more equitable world

Taking a step back, subjects like computer science have been known to be dominated by the male gender. But this has been changing over the past few years. We see more and more females taking up computer science. Teaching students computer science in schools will cultivate more interest even among the females and minority groups. This, as a result, will ensure that there is a balance in the field.
