7 Ideas College Students Can Steal from Typing Services

Written by CB Community

Students have a very demanding schedule, and trying to complete everything successfully can be a challenge. You have to juggle writing essays and studying for exams, all while ensuring your assigned homework is completed on time. If you find yourself in this situation, there are steps you can take to make the process run a little smoother. One beneficial step can be to look at typing services, and learn from how they complete their jobs at such a fast pace. When you are working on a project that contains a lot of text, faster typing can come in handy.

We live in a digital age and most of us use computers and mobile phones on a regular basis. This alone does not necessarily make us fast typists, as it is still a skill most of us have yet to master. If we are going to try to improve our typing skills, we need to look at the professionals for advice. People who type for a living have mastered the art of doing so effectively. These tips will help you increase your speed and your accuracy, and in turn, help you complete your assignments in a timely manner.

1. Finger placing

One of the most important lessons in touch typing is based on finger placing. Each of your fingers need to be dedicated to certain keys on the keyboard. This will allow you to keep your eyes on the screen to pick up on any errors. It is a skill one has to practice to be able to do it efficiently, and before you know it, your fingers will automatically move over the keyboard.

2. Know your baseline

Before you can measure anything, you need to know where the starting point is. If you go online, you can find tools to measure how many words you type per minute. When you are going through your practice period, you need to be able to identify your progress. Start by determining your baseline and then work your way up to a goal point.

3. Pay attention to format

There are different types of documents that you may be required to type. These could include writing a letter, sending a professional email, or constructing an essay. The format of these documents are very different and require distinctive formality. A proficient typist understands that the format is just as important as the text. Familiarizing yourself with the different types of formats you will be working on is part of the process of becoming a proficient typist.

4. Speed isn’t everything

You can type at a fast pace and still make a significant amount of errors. This is why fast typing is great, but it’s not what makes a great typist. You want to strive for accuracy first, and then slowly increase your speed. Do not attempt to do it the other way around, as it simply doesn’t work as effectively.

5. Have a set of tools

Even the best typists have tools they use, and so should you. If you have to copy text from a website it could be beneficial to have a paraphrasing tool. You may also find it beneficial to use a grammar and spell checker. These are essential when you write a lot, because there is no need to do everything from scratch when there are tools that can help.

6. Always continue practicing

When you have mastered most touch typing skills, you need to continue to practice. If you neglect this skill for a significant amount of time, we will no longer be at the same level. You must exercise this skill to be able to perform well. It can be as simple as typing one page of content every day.

7. Outsource

There are moments in a student’s life when you just don’t have the time to learn a new skill. This is when you have to start considering outsourcing your typing. There are some great typing services out there that are reasonably priced. Find a typist you can rely on to call on when you are stressed about a deadline approaching fast.

8. Have you ever required typing services as a student?

At some point, we have all wished for someone else to do all of our hard work. The beauty of this is that nowadays, there are many different services readily available to assist us. However, if you have the time, it may be more beneficial for your future if you use these tips to improve your own typing skills, instead of outsourcing.
